2024 Infiniti QX80 Hybrid, Engine, PriceThe three-row luxury SUV, the 2024 Infiniti QX80, blends modern-day conveniences with old-school power and hauling prowess. This generation’s QX80 is starting to show its age a decade after it appeared as the QX56. Its drab interior and out-of-date appearance have caused it to slip behind more modern competitors like the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. It should be attractive to consumers who want a Japanese luxury car at a significantly lower price range but don’t want to spend as much money as the Lexus LX 570.

The QX80’s 5.6-liter V8 engine cranks out 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, which are respectable but not class-leading statistics. The QX80 may be driven off-road if desired, thanks to its good breakover, approach, and departure angles and the ability to send power to either the rear or all four wheels. Even while the 2021 QX80 Premium Select is still a big high-end SUV at a fair price, a week of driving it shows that it has fallen behind the competition.

The 2024 Infiniti QX80 interior and exterior elements have been tweaked for 2021 and a new trim level. The top-of-the-line Sensory trim has quilted semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, a new graphite tricot headliner, Charcoal Burl trim, and other high-end amenities. 22-inch forged alloy wheels and chrome mirror caps set this vehicle apart. The 2020 QX80 “Edition 30” boasts black accents on the grille, fender vents, and mirror caps, among other things, in the new Premium Select package. It now comes with Infiniti’s second-generation “smart rearview mirror” technology and a lot of other safety features on every trim level.

The interior design of the Infiniti QX80 is one of the most obvious evidences that the vehicle is aging. A 2011 interior awaits as you enter the vehicle’s cabin. Even though it’s large enough for most people, the layout’s reliance on buttons and switches creates an unwieldy feeling that’s close to overpowering. It’s a lot better done by German competitors. At least the driving posture is upright and there are no substantial blind-spots to contend with. Automatic temperature control with three zones, ambient lighting, a 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, and heated front seats are all included as standard equipment in every model.

The 5.6-liter aluminum-alloy V8 engine is an old-school engine, but it has modern features like variable valve management to keep it relevant. This eight-cylinder monster generates 400 horsepower and 413 pounds-feet of torque. Because it is a naturally-aspirated motor, peak torque is only reached at a speed of 4,000 revolutions per minute. Its 6,000-rpm redline is reached with little effort, but in daily driving, the QX80 delivers plenty of torque from low to high revs.

The QX80 has a sprightly feel about it thanks to the lack of turbo lag, and the throttle response is good right out of the gate. The QX80 is a joy to drive in traffic and a joy to cruise on the highway; it’s an excellent all-around performer. The 7-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control is electronically managed and may provide power to either the rear or all four wheels. Since Nissan’s newest nine-speed gearbox is smoother and more responsive, this transmission has been around for a while.
